Workers don shut down power grid because of strike wey dey happen

Di Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) don announce say di labour unions don completely shut down Nigeria power grid as di strike wey Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) dey do don start.

NLC and TUC don begin nationwide strike on Monday to protest against di N60,000 minimum wage wey Federal Goment dey propose.

For statement wey TCN tok-tok pesin, Ndidi Mbah, release on Monday morning to announce di shutdown of di national power grid, di transmission company say na di workers deliberately do am.

Di statement title na, “Grid shutdown: Union Deliberately shuts down di National Grid.”

“Around 1:15am dis morning, di Benin Transmission Operator under di Independent System Operations unit of TCN report say all operators don comot from di control room and say staff wey no gree comot, dem beat dem and some even wound for di process of forcing dem comot from di control room. Without any form of control or supervision, dem bring di Benin Area Control Centre to zero.

“Oda transmission substations wey di labour union shut down include Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba, and Osogbo transmission substations. Dem even open some transmission lines sake of di activities wey di labour union dey do.”

For di power generating side, TCN say di power generating units from different generating stations dey forced to shut down some units of dia generating plants.

“Dem force Jebba Generating Station to shut down one of im generating units while three oda ones for di same substation come shut down afta sake of very high frequency. Di sudden forced load cuts come cause high frequency and system instability, wey come shut down di national grid around 2:19am.

“However, around 3.23am, TCN come begin recover di grid, using di Shiroro Substation to try feed di transmission lines wey dey supply bulk electricity to di Katampe Transmission Substation. Di situation be say di labour union still dey obstruct grid recovery nationwide.

“We go continue to dey try recover and stabilize di grid to enable di restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres nationwide,” di statement add.
